JUST IN: UK police arrest Ike Ekweremadu, charged with organ harvesting

The UK police have arrested two Nigerians on allegation of conspiring to transport a child into the UK in order to harvest organs.

Organ harvesting is the removing of a person’s body parts, usually for sale in the black market and against the victim’s will.

The police said Beatrice Nwanneka Ekweremadu, 55, and Ike Ekweremadu, 60, both Nigerian nationals, will appear at Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court later today, Thursday.

The arrest followed an investigation by the Metropolitan Police’s Specialist Crime team, the BBC reports.

The investigation was launched after detectives were alerted to potential offences under UK modern slavery legislation in May 2022.

The child, whose gender and age are not yet disclosed, has been taken into care.
