BREAKING: INEC declares Tinubu Nigeria’s President-Elect

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as the winner of Nigeria’s presidential election, held Saturday, February 25.
Mahmood Yakubu, chairman of INEC, announced the results in the early hours of Wednesday, while Nigerians were still asleep.
Yakubu said Tinubu scored a total of 8,794,726 votes.
Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had the second-highest figure with 6,984,520 votes, while Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) was next with 6,101,533 votes.
“I now perform my responsibility as chief returning officer of the federation,” the INEC chair said.
“I, professor Mahmood Yakubu, hereby certify that I am the returning officer for the 2023 general election.
“That Tinubu Bola Ahmed of the APC, having certified the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner and is returned.”
