Abia State has been selected for the second phase of the European Union’s Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption (RoLAC) Programme, facilitated by the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (International Idea). The intergovernmental organization, headquartered in Stockholm and comprising 35 member countries, recognized Abia’s reformative strides as a key factor for its inclusion.

Mr. Danladi Plang, Head of Programme in Nigeria for International Idea, praised Governor Dr. Alex Otti’s leadership during a visit to the state capital. The RoLAC Programme, which commenced in 2017, has entered its second phase, adding Abia and Plateau states to its existing partners—Lagos, Anambra, Edo, Kano, and Adamawa.

Plang emphasized the alignment of Abia’s progress with the programme’s goals, stating, “The success that Abia State is recording through your leadership is a testament to the good work you’re doing.”

The RoLAC initiative aims to bolster rule of law, enhance justice systems, and combat corruption. It seeks to improve access to justice for vulnerable groups, including women, children, and persons with disabilities, and to foster transparency and accountability in anti-corruption efforts.

Governor Otti expressed gratitude for the support and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to good governance and zero tolerance for corruption. He acknowledged the challenges ahead but remained optimistic about the state’s trajectory towards his vision.

The Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Ikechukwu Uwanna, also highlighted the government’s intent to leverage International Idea’s expertise to better serve justice for Abia’s citizens.

With this new phase of collaboration, Abia State is poised to further its journey towards sustainable development and justice for all.
