EXCLUSIVE: Structural engineer warned about integrity of collapsed Ikoyi building

Collapsed 21-storey building in Ikoyi designed for six floors

 

Prowess Engineering Limited, the company which supervised the initial structural works for the ill-fated 21-storey building that collapsed in Ikoyi, Lagos State, Monday afternoon, had warned about the integrity of the project, last year.

When it appeared that its warning was not heeded, the structural engineering company had to severe relationship with the project developer, Fourscore Heights Limited.

In a letter dated 20th February 2020, and addressed to “Mr Femi Osibona, Fourscore Heights Limited, 44BCD Gerrard Road, Ikoyi, Lagos State”, and signed by Muritala Olawale, Managing Director, Prowess Engineering Limited, said it can only “guarantee the integrity of the first two buildings and works done up to the fourth floor of the third building”.

Our source revealed that it was the third building that eventually collapsed.
