Even before formally declaring his departure from the party, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has bid Ebonyi State governor, David Umahi, goodbye from its fold.

The PDP said Umahi, who had attained political prominence on the platform of the country’s main opposition party “left our party for personal reasons”.

It subsequently promised that Nigerians would come to know the reasons at the fullness of time.

PDP in a statement on Tuesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, thanked Governor Umahi, for the services rendered to Ebonyi people through the various offices he served as a member of the party.

“Our party thanks Governor Umahi for services rendered to the people of Ebonyi state, as the State Chairman of Ebonyi PDP (2003 to 2007); deputy governor of Ebonyi state (2007 to 2015) and two-term governor of Ebonyi (2015 till date), all elected on the platform of the PDP.

“As we wish Governor Umahi all the best in his adventure, we call on the members of our party to remain calm and committed to the ideals of our party as no individual is bigger than the PDP,” the party declared.

Meanwhile, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has welcomed Umahi to its fold, declaring that the Ebonyi is now for the APC.

In a tweet on its official Twitter handle, APC announced: “Welcome home, Governor David Nweze Umahi. Ebonyi State is APC!”

Umahi is said to have declared his intention of decamping from the PDP because, according to him, the party was not keen on an Igbo president in 2023, whereas APC had already promised that the office will be zoned to the southeast region.
