Umahi declares for presidency, meets Buhari

Ebonyi State governor, David Umahi, has declared his intention to run for the office of the President in 2023.

Umahi announced his ambition to State House Correspondents on Tuesday after a closed-door meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The governor’s visit to the Villa comes 24 hours after former Lagos State governor and a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, met Buhari to inform him of his presidential ambition.

Emerging from the president’s office, Umahi confirmed that he discussed the issue with Buhari, who asked him to go and seek the support of the people.

The governor said he is undeterred by Tinubu’s presence, saying that the contest is not about might.

Umahi defected to the APC from Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in November 2020.
