Support for detained Obi Cubana as EFCC seizes his passport

Cubana Club owner, Obinna Iyiegbu aka Obi Cubana, is still in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), two days after he was arrested.

Also, the EFCC has reportedly confiscated his passport to prevent him from leaving the country, while still under investigation.

The Anambra-born businessman was arrested on Monday for alleged money laundering and tax fraud and has remained with the financial crime agency.

A source who spoke to the media on the arrest said Cubana was still having quality sessions with the EFCC.

“Obi Cubana has not been released, he is still having quality sessions with investigators over alleged money laundering running into millions of Naira and tax fraud.

“He will be released when he has satisfactorily responded to all questions relating to his involvement in various illegal deals.

“As part of investigation, his travel document has been temporarily seized pending the conclusion of investigations.”

EFCC spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren, confirmed that Cubana was still in EFCC custody but said he had no information on the passport seizure.

DSS DG’s son, Abba, weighs in

Meanwhile, Iyiegbu has won support from the most unlikely quarter.

Abba, a teenage son of the Director-General, Department of State Services (DSS), Yusuf Bichi, took to his verified Instagram account, abba__bichi, immediately after the detention of Cubana, to declare his support for the businessman.

Abba, a footballer, uploaded a vibrant picture of a smiling Cubana with the following words of endearment, “A man of honour and dignity,” adding not every wealthy person in the country is fraudulent.

Not even some of the backlash he received for his kind gesture towards Cubana could dissuade him.

“Go and prove that okay, not everyone with money is into fraud, you idiots support politicians with money and find it hard to see any good Nigerian with money! Indeed you are an illiterate of the highest order,” he fired at a critic, @nadiaibrahimismail, who wrote: “You’re not ashamed your father is the DG SSS, a responsible person you’re here supporting yahoo boys.”

To another contributor, he responded: “If my father is DSS (DG), so what?”
