DIG Joseph Egbunike

The Deputy Inspector General of Police, DIG Joseph Obiajulu Egbunike, who chaired the panel that investigated the allegation of bribery against suspended Commander of Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT), Abba Kyari, is dead.

RELIABLESOURCENG.COM reports that DIG Egbunike was in charge of the Force Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Nigeria Police.

Informed source said Egbunike had reported feeling uncomfortable during the weekend and on Tuesday went to see a doctor for medical check-up after which he was given some drugs and asked to go. But few minutes later the senior officer was said to have slumped and died in the office.

Egbunike headed the Special Investigation Panel that probed the alleged involvement of Kyari in a $1.1million bribery scandal involving convicted Internet fraudster, Ramon Abbas aka Hushpuppi.
