Nigeria scraps COVID-19 test for fully vaccinated travellers

Effective Monday, April 4, 2022, fully vaccinated passengers arriving Nigeria will no longer be required to take a pre-departure PCR COVID-19 test.

Instead, a free rapid antigen test will be administered on this category of passengers within the airport arrival hall.

This is according to the Chairman of the Presidential Steering Committee (PSC) on COVID-19, Mr Boss Mustapha, who spoke on Monday at a media briefing, where he announced a revision of the International Travel Protocols.

However, Mustapha said that passengers who are unvaccinated or partially vaccinated are still expected to take a COVID-19 PCR test 48 hours before departure, or do a Day 2 and Day 7 tests on arrival.

Such passengers, he said, will be expected to pay for their PCR tests through the Federal Government’s travel platform, while fully vaccinated passengers will not be charged for rapid antigen tests at the airport.

RELIABLESOURCENG.COM reports that some Nigerians had kicked against the continued subjection of fully vaccinated travellers to routine COVID-19 tests and the high cost of doing such tests, coupled with the racketeering by government officials.
