Nnamdi Kanu: Malami should resign for embarrassing FG – Lawyer

Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu, is expected to appear in court Thursday, December 2, raising hope of his possible release from detention.

He is scheduled to appear before Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court, Abuja.

Kanu’s Special Counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, revealed this to the media on Wednesday.

Ejimakor said the court granted an abridgement of time after a motion was filed by his client.

Justice Nyako had on November 10, 2021, adjourned Kanu’s trial until January 19 and 20, 2022.

“There will be a hearing tomorrow (Thursday). It wasn’t scheduled before. The court granted our motion for abridgement of time,” Ejimakor said.

Kanu’s appearance in court Thursday raises hope of his possible release from detention where he has been in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) since his interception and repatriation to Nigeria from Kenya.

He had earlier jumped bail and escaped to United Kingdom, claiming his life was in danger after a detachment of the Nigerian Army stormed his family home in Umuahia, Abia State.

Some respected Igbo elders, led by Minister of Aviation in the First Republic, Chief Mbazulike Amaechi, had recently visited President Muhammadu Buhari in Aso Rock, Abuja, to plead for his release as his detention has continued to stoke security unrest in the south east.

The president had promised his visitors he would consider the request even though, according to him, it was “a heavy one”.
