Following the announcement of 10 new cases of COVID-19, the Federal Government of Nigeria has announced the closure of all the country’s airports to all international flights as part of measures to curb spread of the disease.

This measure will take effect from Monday, March 23, 2020.

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) in a letter dated 21st March, 2020 and addressed to all airline operators, Nigerian and foreign, communicated government’s decision to shut the airports.

This development follows earlier announcement shutting down three other airports – Aminu Kano International, Kano; Akanu Ibiam International, Enugu and Port-Harcourt International, Omagwa – to international flights, effective from today, 21st March, 2020.

“Henceforth, all airports in Nigeria are closed to all incoming international flights with the exception of emergency and essential flights,” NCAA declared in the letter signed by the Director-General/CEO, Captain Musa S. Nuhu.

NCAA, however, clarified that the local airports remain open for domestic operations.
