Two escape as gunmen abduct Abia university students

Gunmen have abducted an unspecified number of students of Abia State University (ABSU), Uturu.
Two of the students however escaped from the abductors.
The victims were seized from a mini bus while travelling to Uturu from Okigwe in Imo State, on Wednesday, according to reports. The incident occurred between 7-8pm.
Commissioner for Information, John Okiyi-Kalu, who confirmed the incident to journalists, clarified that the attack happened in Imo State and not Abia.

He said the Abia government was monitoring development on the incident and that two students were able to escape from their captors when they were led into a nearby forest alongside other travellers.
“When they ran into the armed gang who marched them into the nearby forest along with other yet to be identified travellers, two of the students managed to escape from the hoodlums while others are still being held at a yet to be identified location.
“We are working with the government of Imo State and relevant security agencies in both states to ensure the rescue of the abducted students and others,” the commissioner said.
