Nigerian Railway suspends operations on Abuja-Kaduna route after terrorist attack

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) Tuesday suspended operations on its Abuja-Kaduna route, citing unforeseen circumstances.
However, the suspension may not be unconnected to the reported attack on a passenger train on the route, on Monday, with about 900 commuters on board.
Media reports had recounted how suspected terrorists bombed the railway tracks and attacked the train filled with passengers on Monday night.
The railway corporation is yet to officially acknowledge the attack but announced Tuesday morning that it has suspended services on the ill-fated route.
“Dear passengers, due to unforeseen circumstances, Train operations along the Abuja-Kaduna route has been temporarily suspended.
“Further Communication would be given in due course,” the corporation announced on its Twitter handle, in a terse message.

The attack came a few days after terrorists attacked the Kaduna International Airport where a Lagos-bound aircraft was prevented from taking off.
A security staff of the Nigeria Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) was also killed in the attack.
RELIABLESOURCENG.COM learnt that the terrorists planted some improvised explosive device (IED) on the tracks, which set off and caused the train to derail.
The attackers were said to have stormed the coaches, shot sporadically and may have abducted some passengers for ransom.
