Grace Alele-Williams first Nigerian woman Vice-Chancellor dies at 89

The first Nigerian female Vice-Chancellor, Professor Grace Alele-Williams, is dead. She was 89 years old.

Alele-Williams was the Vice Chancellor of University of Benin, Edo State, from 1985 until 1991.

She was also the first Nigerian woman to receive a Doctorate, in Mathematics, in 1963. She later became a professor of mathematical education.

Her tenure as Vice-Chancellor in UNIBEN was acclaimed to have witnessed a drastic reduction in cultism, a menace in the university at the time.

Details of her death are yet to be disclosed.
