Kano State on Thursday pushed Lagos aside to displace the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, on Nigeria’s COVID-19 index table.

According to the numbers released by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Kano turned in 80 new cases out of the total 204 confirmed new cases across the country.

So far, only two states – Cross River and Kogi – are yet to record any case of coronavirus in Nigeria.

Kano had been in the eye of the storm over stories of series of mystery deaths. But with the resuscitation of testing in its original laboratory and the newly activated lab at the Bayero University, the cloud appears to be clearing.

Concerned by the sordid stories out of Kano, President Muhammadu Buhari in a national broadcast on Tuesday announced a total lockdown of the state for two weeks, to allow for proper tracing and containment of the coronavirus disease.

Kano is currently number two on the COVID-19 index table with a total of 219 confirmed cases out of 1,932 confirmed cases nationwide. It has also recorded three deaths.

Lagos remains the epicentre with 976 confirmed cases. Lagos has also recorded the highest number of recovered and discharged patients, 199, and number of deaths, 21.
