Ezekwesili on Leah Sharibu

A former Minister of Education and Convener of the Bring-Back-Our-Girls Movement, Dr Obiageli Ezekwesili, has adduced reason why President Muhammadu Buhari has failed to secure the release of the only Christian girl, Leah Sharibu, one of the 110 schoolgirls abducted by terrorists in Dapchi, Yobe State, in 2018.

Ezekwesili whose campaign for the release of the over 270 schoolgirls from Chibok, Borno State, abducted by Boko Haram in 2014, attracted global attention, says Leah Sharibu, who was 14 years old at the time of her abduction and the remaining Chibok girls in captivity do not matter to President Buhari.

While expressing happiness for the Tuesday release of close to 300 schoolgirls of Government Girls Science Secondary School, Jangebe, Zamfara State and those before it, especially in the last three months, Dr Ezekwesili wondered why the same effort has not been deployed to free Leah Sharibu and the other Chibok girls from their captors.

“Extremely happy for the #JangebeGirls who gained their freedom,” she tweeted Tuesday on the news that the Zamfara schoolgirls had been freed.

She, however, added: “These various recoveries of abducted children from their abductors shows that @MBuhari has failed to bring back our remaining #112ChibokGirls and #LeahSharibu because they don’t matter to him.

“What’s different?”
