White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany Thursday condemned the violent incidents at the U.S. Capitol in a briefing.

It was her first public remarks since supporters of US President, Donald Trump, stormed the building as lawmakers met to certify the Electoral College vote.

“We condemn it in the strongest possible terms,” McEnany said. “It is unacceptable and those who broke the law should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”

McEnany added that “those who are working in this building are working to ensure an orderly transition of power.”

Earlier on Thursday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi called for President Trump to be removed by the 25th Amendment, or by impeachment if senior Trump officials refuse to act.

The 25th Amendment to the US Constitution includes a section allowing the vice president and a majority of Cabinet members to declare a president “unable” to perform the job.

Four people died during the riots, including one person who was shot, and at least 52 were arrested.

Protesters attended a rally outside the White House before descending on the Capitol.
