UPDATE: Nigeria has 27 confirmed cases of Coronavirus

  • Lagos tops list with 21 cases

Nigeria now has 27 confirmed cases of the coronavirus disease, according to update issued by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), with five new confirmed cases recorded today, March 22, 2020.

Out of the 27 cases, two have been discharged and there has been no death recorded from the COVID-19 in Nigeria, the NCDC announced.

Of the new cases, three are in Lagos State, one in Oyo State and one in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

“A multi-sectoral national emergency operations centre (EOC), activated at Level 3, continues to coordinate the national response activities,” the agency said.

The Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Prof Akin Abayomi, gave more insight into the three new cases recorded in the state, saying one of them is a Nigerian while the other two are a Briton and an American citizen.

“One of the three new patients is a 51-year-old Briton who arrived Nigeria on March 8 via BA75 flight.

“The second is a Nigerian, on March 14 connecting flight KL0582 London-Amsterdam / KL0587 Amsterdam–Lagos.

“The third is a 65-year-old US citizen who arrived in Lagos about six weeks ago,” Prof Abayomi elaborated.
