Twitter deletes Buhari’s tweet for violating rule

Twitter has deleted a tweet where President Muhammadu Buhari threatened to deal with ‘people’ who did not learn from the experience of Nigeria-Biafra civil war.
RELIABLESOURCENG.COM noticed that the offensive comment tweeted by Buhari on Tuesday has been yanked off by the tech giant for allegedly violating its rules.
The President had tweeted: “Many of those misbehaving today are too young to be aware of the destruction and loss of lives that occurred during the Nigerian Civil War. Those of us in the fields for 30 months, who went through the war, will treat them in the language they understand.”
The president’s tweet followed his meeting with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman, Prof Mahmood Yakubu and his team and in reaction to widespread attacks on INEC facilities and other public assets by unknown arsonists in the South East region.

The tweet however sparked outrage with many social media users describing it as ‘genocidal’ and a direct threat to people of the South-East region of Nigeria.
The president’s tweet was subsequently deleted and flagged as “no longer available”.
Twitter gave an insight in its rules and policy page why Buhari’s tweet was removed, saying: “We may sometimes add a notice to an account or Tweet to give you more context on the actions our systems or teams may take. In some instances, this is because the behavior violates the Twitter Rules. Other times, it may be in response to a valid and properly scoped request from an authorized entity in a given country.
