Tension in Enugu as suspected herdsmen kill pregnant woman

- Police calls for calm over murder
BY INNIH KING
The Enugu State Police Command has described as unfortunate the murder of a pregnant woman and her unborn child by persons suspected to be herdsmen.
Coming barely three weeks after a Catholic priest of Enugu Diocese, Reverend Fr. Paul Offu, was killed by herdsmen along Ihe-Agbude road in Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu State, the unnamed woman was said to have been killed in Nchatancha Nike in Enugu East Council Area of the State.
She was said to be on her way home from the farm when she was accosted by her assailants who ripped open her belly.
Enugu State police spokesman, Superintendent of Police Amarizu Ebere, while calling for calm told reliablesourceng.com that the police had deposited the corpse in the morgue and investigation into the killing begun.
“We have commenced investigation into the incident with a view to identify those involved,” he responded to a question on what the police was doing.
When asked to confirm if the assailants were herdsmen as alleged, he snapped, “Was the person making the reference there when the incident happened?”
He restated that police operatives from the Enugu State command were on top of the situation and that calm had returned to the area, after community members were said to have blocked the Enugu-Abakaliki Expressway, to protest the murder.
