Take out sponsors, leaders of kidnappers, bandits - Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has reportedly ordered security agencies to identify the sponsors as well as leaders of kidnappers and bandits in the country, especially in the northern parts of Nigeria, and take them out.

The National Security Adviser (NSA), Babagana Monguno, quoted the President as saying that his administration would not tolerate a situation where criminal elements dictate the pace in the fight against insecurity in the country and consequently ordered security agents to bring such people and those backing them down.

Monguno spoke while briefing State House correspondents at the end of security meeting presided over by Buhari, Tuesday, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The NSA also said President Buhari told the security heads that he would no longer tolerate a situation where the nation’s security is reactionary instead of being proactive.

According to Monguno, Buhari also insisted that all the decisions approved at the National Security Council meeting last month including a ban on mining activities in Zamfara and no-fly-zone remained enforced until further notice, to curb the rising insecurity in the state.

President Buhari is scheduled to embark on a medical trip to the United Kingdom after the security meeting, presidential spokesman Femi Adesina said in a statement on Monday. He is expected back in the “second week” of April, according to Adesina.
