Strike: You can’t kill our future with your irresponsibility – Students tell FG
Leaders of NANS address the media during the protest on Lagos-Ibadan Highway on Tuesday

Nigerian students, under the aegis of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), have unleashed their frustration at the Federal Government, over the protracted strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

The students vowed not allow the “irresponsibility” of the Federal Government to kill their future.

Sadly, it was hapless commuters plying the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway that bore the brunt of the students’ anger, as the youths on Tuesday occupied the highway, which has been undergoing reconstruction, further compounding the agony of motorists on the corridor.

Unyielding, they have vowed to continue their protest on Wednesday, this time taking over the popular Iwo Road Roundabout in Ibadan, Oyo State.

In a statement on Tuesday night, signed by the National Public Relations Officer of NANS, Giwa Temitope, the students accused the government of “crass irresponsibility” for allowing the ASUU strike continue, after seven months.

“In sustaining the #EndASUUStrikeNow struggle, which commenced today (Tuesday), we call on all Nigerian students, parents and workers to join us in Ibadan tomorrow as we continue the agitation.

“ASUU strike has been on for exactly seven months with the Federal Government showing crass irresponsibility.

“For the past seven months, a total of 15 negotiations have been done with no tangible result. The Federal Government has displayed their unreadiness towards committing to the wellbeing of lecturers and the funding of the educational sector.

“Nigerian students have had enough of staying at home. We will not allow our rulers to use their irresponsibility to kill the future of Nigerian students,” the statement read partly.

The statement called on students to converge at Iwo Road, Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, for the continuation of the strike.
