Slain APC chieftain Ahmed Gulak disguised in a taxi

BY KAZIE UKO
All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain Ahmed Gulak who was killed Sunday morning in Owerri, Imo State, may have disguised while traveling to the airport on his way to Abuja.
Gulak, a former Special Adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan on Political Matters, was reportedly shot by some unknown gunmen while heading to Sam Mbakwe Airport, Owerri, to catch a flight to Abuja.
RELIABLESOURCENG.COM understood that he was in Owerri to observe the two-day Senate Public Hearing on Constitution Review in Owerri, one of the two centres allocated to the South East Zone. Enugu hosted the second centre.
Even though the circumstance of the APC chieftain’s killing is still very sketchy, a senior government source confirmed to RELIABLESOURCENG.COM that Gulak was indeed killed in Owerri.
“I can confirm that he was killed here (Owerri) but can’t say anything about the circumstances he was killed,” the senior government source told us.

Asked why such a high-profile personality was not accorded the necessary security protocol to enhance his movement, the source said Gulak may have opted to disguise as he was said to have been chauffeured to the airport in a taxi.
“This may have been a preferred security measure not to attract attention to himself. But like I said, I don’t want to go into the circumstances of the killing as details are still very sketchy. But I believe the government and the security agencies will come up with a statement shortly,” the source said.
Neither the Commissioner for Information, Declan Emelumba nor the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Oguwike Nwachuku, was available for comment when we reached out to them.
Several calls to the state police PRO, Bala Elkana, were not answered.
