Senator Shehu Sani mocks EFCC over Magu’s arrest

BY NICHOLAS ABE
Former Senator representing Kaduna Central on the platform of the All Progressives Party (APC), Shehu Sani, has made a mockery of effort by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to deny media reports of ‘arrest’ of its boss, Ibrahim Magu.
The media had been agog today, July 6, with news of Magu’s arrest by the Department of State Security (DSS) in Abuja.
EFCC’s spokesman, Dele Oyewale, in a statement published on the agency’s Twitter handle on Monday, denied Magu’s arrest, saying that he only honoured an invitation by a Presidential Panel reviewing the activities of the EFCC, at the Banquet Hall wing of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
“He was served the invitation to the Panel, while on his way to the Force Headquarters, Abuja for a meeting.
“The EFCC’s boss was neither arrested nor forced to honour the invitation. A member of a legal team from the EFCC is also with him on the Panel,” Oyewale said in his statement.
But Senator Sani who obviously has axe to grind with the EFCC following his incarceration by the agency over an allegation of extortion and bribery made against him by one Alhaji Sani Dauda, took to his Twitter handle to ridicule the EFCC’s response.

“You invited me, I voluntarily honoured with my lawyer and you fed the media with the news that I was arrested. They learnt from you,” Sani said rather wryly.
Meanwhile, the DSS has said that its men did not arrest the EFCC’s acting Chairman.
The DSS in a statement issued by its Public Relations Officer, Peter Afunanya, said it “wishes to inform the public that it did not arrest Ibrahim MAGU, Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) as has been reported by sections of the media.”
The Service said it had been inundated with enquiries over the alleged arrest.
