Senate President swears in Ibezim as Imo-North senator

After a protracted legal battle that ended in his favour and recognition by the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC), Frank Ibezim has been finally sworn in as the All Progressives Congress (APC) member elected to represent Imo-North Senatorial District, at the National Assembly.

President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, Tuesday swore in Ibezim to fill the vacant seat left behind Benjamin Uwajumogu, who died last year.

The Clerk of the Senate, Ibrahim El-Ladan, administered the oath of office and oath of allegiance on the new senator.

INEC had declared APC winner of the by-election conducted to fill the vacant chair but without a candidate, as both Ibezim and Ifeanyi Ararume squared up over who had the authentic APC ticket.

The electoral body had subsequently declared that it was up to the courts to decide the legitimate bearer of the senatorial ticket.
