Police drag Naira Marley to court for breaking COVID-19 order

Controversial afro pop singer Azeez Fashola, aka Naira Marley, has been taken to the Lagos State Special Offences Court in Ikeja, Lagos.
The police filed charges against him for violating COVID-19 directives banning interstate travels put in place to curb the spread of coronavirus.
Naira Marley had flown in a chartered plane provided by Executive Jets to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja, for a concert on Saturday, July 13.
The concert at the Jabi Lake Mall elicited public outcries with many who attended breaking protocols at the peak of the coronavirus pandemic.
The Nation reports that Marley’s arrest was based on orders of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Mohammed Adamu.
Lagos Police spokesman Bala Elkana confirmed the appearance of Naira Marley in court.
He said the musician presented himself at the Command Headquarters on Thursday.
“We are in court as we speak. He will be arraigned for violating the interstate travel order. That is the aspect that concerns Lagos State,” he Elkana said.
