The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the 2019 election in Abia State, Dr Alex Otti, says he is not in agreement with the decision of the Appeal Court, Owerri, that upheld the election of Okezie Ikpeazu as governor of Abia State.
Otti, nonetheless, said he respected the judgment of the court which aligned with the decision of the Abia State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, Umuahia.
In a statement Monday, on his behalf, by his media aide, Ferdinand Ekeoma, Otti said the cause of justice in the March 9 governorship election in Abia State had not been served and as such he would not relent in his quest for justice.
“Even though Alex Otti, and his party respect the judgment of the Appeal court, it is well within our rights to disagree with the learned judges of the Appeal court who dismissed our petition and we so do.
“We believe that being human, the judges are not perfect and in this particular case, we feel that the cause of justice was neither served nor was seen to have been served,” Ekeoma said in his statement.
The statement called on distraught citizens of Abia State to remain calm and not take laws into their hands as the battle to wrestle the governorship of Abia from the present leadership will be fought to its logical legal conclusion.
“In spite of our reservations with the said judgement, we wish to appeal for calm as it is consistent with our character,” the statement reiterated.
It added: “Let us remind and reassure millions of Abians that our resolve to arrest the leadership deficiency ravaging Abia State has been emboldened the more, hence the need for you not to be perturbed by the insensitive ranting of the oppressive Abia State Government and her agents.
“We shall keep pushing vigorously and fearlessly until we succeed in extricating our state from the hands of her enemies.”
