The Lagos State Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr Idris Salako, has resigned from office.

This is coming some 24 hours after a seven-storey building under construction in the Oniru area of Victoria Island, Lagos, collapsed, early Sunday morning, killing at least two persons.

The Lagos State governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has accepted the resignation.

A statement by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, announced this on Monday.

“This is a prelude to the restructuring of the Ministry and its agencies.

“Governor Sanwo-Olu thanks the Commissioner for his services to the state and wishes him success in his future endeavours.

“The Governor warns all players in the sector to respect the law or face the consequences of any indiscretion, no matter who the perpetrators are,” the statement read in part, in apparent reference to the tragic building collapse in Oniru and series of such other incidents.
