Obiano in EFCC detention, transferred to Abuja

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has transferred the immediate past governor of Anambra State, Willie Obiano, to its headquarter in Abuja.
RELIABLESOURCENG.COM reports that the former governor was arrested on Thursday night, by the operatives of EFCC, at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, on his way to Houston, Texas, United States of America.
He had handed over to the new governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, earlier on Thursday, at a low-keyed ceremony, held inside Government House, Awka, capital of the state.
EFCC spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren, who spoke to the media confirmed that Obiano was transferred to Abuja Friday morning, after spending the night in the commission’s facility Thursday night.

“He’s still with the commission. He was even transferred from Lagos to Abuja this morning,” Uwujaren said.
He, however, did not state whether Obiano was arrested alongside his wife, Ebelechukwu, who had created a scene at the hand-over ceremony, when she left her seat to go confront Mrs Bianca Ojukwu, wife of former Biafran warlord, Chief Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu.
EFCC operatives picked up Obiano at the Lagos international airport, around 8:30pm. The ex-governor, who had been on the watch list of the EFCC since November 15, 2021, was arrested while he was trying to board a U.S.-bound flight.
