Obi, in Osun, replies Tinubu – ‘There’s dignity in labour’

Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, on Wednesday, told the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, that there is dignity in labour.

Obi spoke in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, during a mega rally to support the LP governorship candidate, Hon. Lasun Yusuf.

He said: “I listened to our chairman when he said that somebody said ‘they can labour till death’.

“When they show you hatred, Labour Party will show them love. There is dignity in labour.”

Obi appealed to residents not to sell their votes, advising them to collect money from vote buyers and then vote for Labour Party.

He said Yusuf is competent and capable to be the next Governor of Osun.

Tinubu had at the grand rally for the re-election of APC candidate and Osun State governor, Adegboyega Oyetola, on Tuesday, derided the opposition parties in Osun.

Specifically, Tinubu mocked: “They said some are in Labour, they will remain labourers till death.”

Similarly, the LP’s candidate, Lasun lambasted Tinubu, saying his comment about the Labour Party was inconsistent with the attributes of a virtuous Yoruba man.

He said he would make life better for the people if elected as governor. He said he would alleviate the suffering of the people of Osun, promising youths in the state that they would be gainfully employed if he becomes the governor.

Meanwhile, the governorship candidates in the July 16 governorship election in Osun State have signed a Peace Accord facilitated by the National Peace Committee under the chairmanship of former Head of State, General Abubakar Abdulsallam and the Kukah Center.

The candidates all pledged to conduct themselves in a peaceful manner during the election.

The candidates of APC and PDP, Gboyega Oyetola and Ademola Adeleke, respectively, were among those that signed the peace accord.

The event was witnessed by the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmood Yakubu, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi; President of Osun State Muslim Community, Alhaji Mustafa Olawuyi, and members of the Civil Societies.

Ooni of Ife commended the candidates for the maturity they displayed and appealed to them to sustain it throughout the election period.

He said the traditional rulers will also play their part to make the election hitch free in their various communities.
