Obaseki triumphs! Buries Oshiomhole, godfatherism in Edo State

Godwin Obaseki, returned on Sunday, September 20, 2020, as governor of Edo State, following the gubernatorial election in the state on Saturday, has thanked the Edo people for his victory.
Obaseki said in a tweet few minutes after he was declared winner of the election that the victory was made possible by the collective will of the Edo people.
“Words fail me in saluting our teeming supporters who displayed immense courage in the face of threats, intimidation and brutalization.
“The collective will of Edo people made it possible for us this triumph over godfatherism. Congratulations to all Edo people. This is our victory!” he declared on his Twitter handle.
Returning Officer for the election, Prof Akpofure Rim-Rukeh, said Godwin Obaseki of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) scored 307,955 to beat his closest rival, Osagie Ize-Iyamu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who garnered 223,619 votes, in the election that was keenly contested.
