Nzuko Umunna mourns activists Odumakin, Chukwuma

The Igbo think-tank group, Nzuko Umunna, has expressed deep shock on the sudden death of Afenifere Publicity Secretary, Comrade Yinka Odumakin, describing the late spokesman as a bridge builder.

Nzuko Umunna, in a statement issued Sunday by the Secretary General, Paschal Mbanefo and Coordinator, Ngozi Odumuko, said that Odumakin, as testified by many Nigerians was a progressive and great activist who always stood for the rights of the people.

“To us in Nzuko Umunna, Yinka was a great partner and bridge who continued to play a key role in strengthening the bond and unity of the Igbo and Yoruba. It would be recalled that he was a key player in the maiden Handshake across the Niger initiative which has culminated to a formidable alliance amongst the people of Southern Nigeria.

“The leadership and entire members of Nzuko Umunna heartily commiserate with the wife Dr. Joe Okei-Odumakin and the entire members of the Odumakin family on the death of their great son.

“We are consoled by his life legacies and will continue to work and consolidate on the gains of his interventions. He will be greatly remembered as a loyal partner and a voice of the people.

“May God accept his soul. Amen,” the group announced.

Also, the Igbo think-tank which recently inaugurated the first-of-its-kind Igbo data base project, a web platform housing details of Igbo professionals, business people, intelligentsia and traders, expressed sadness at the passage of another activist, Mr Innocent Chukwuma.

Chukwuma was the founder and pioneer Executive Director of the Centre for Law Enforcement Education in Nigeria (CLEEN) Foundation. He died Saturday, April 3, 2021.
