The two-day warning strike embarked upon by the staff of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) ended Friday.

But the workers have issued a 21-day fresh notice to embark on a full-blown strike, if their demands were not met.

This was disclosed by the chairman of the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN) NIMC unit, Lucky Michael Asekokhai, according to Daily Trust report.

“We have called off the strike and all our members are to resume on Monday,” Asekokhai said.

The union chairman, who said the staff had achieved their aim with the two-day strike, called on the Federal Government to yield to their demands in good time.

Meanwhile, the Federal Government will on Tuesday meet with the representatives of the workers in Abuja, to discuss about their welfare.

The Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, is expected to lead the Federal Government’s team at the meeting.

The executives of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) will also be at the meeting, an official who did not want to be named said.

The NIMC workers are agitating for the enhancement of their salaries and welfare as well as improved safety for staff against COVID-19.

The two-day warning strike crippled the National Identity Number (NIN) registration process across the country on Thursday and Friday.

The Federal Government had on December 15 directed telecom operators to link their subscribers’ SIM with their NINs, within a two-week ultimatum which was eventually extended by six weeks.
