The daily report of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Nigeria submitted by the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has continued to show an unsteady pattern of growth, making it difficult to know when the country will likely reach its peak.

In the last 10 days reported new cases by the NCDC have fluctuated between 436 and 779.

For example, 490 cases were reported on Sunday, June 28 while 779 cases were reported on Saturday. Friday recorded 684, Thursday 594, Wednesday 649, Tuesday 452, Monday 675 while Sunday June 21 recorded 436.

This is unlike the pattern recorded in a good number of countries where figures of new cases rise steadily, peaks and begin to go down and eventually flatten.

So, four months after the index case was recorded, it is still not clear when the virus is going to hit its peak with the zigzag movement of the graph.

The 490 new cases were reported as follows: Lagos (118), Delta (84), Ebonyi (68), FCT (56), Plateau (39), Edo (29), Katsina (21), Imo (13), Ondo (12), Adamawa (11), Osun (8), Ogun (8), Rivers (6), Kano (5), Enugu (3),Bauchi (3), Akwa Ibom (3), Kogi (1), Oyo (1) and Bayelsa (1).

According to the update published by the NCDC on its COVID-19 website, as of June 28, 2020, Nigeria has recorded a total of 24,567 confirmed cases, discharged 9,007 cases while recording 565 COVID-19 related deaths in 35 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) of the federation.

So far, only Cross River State is still without a confirmed case in the country.

Meanwhile, 317 Nigerians including nine infants arrived Nnamdi Azikiwe Int’l Airport, Abuja at about 9:50pm local time via Air Peace flight P47801 from Heathrow @HeathrowAirport London, on Sunday, 28th June, 2020. 175 passengers disembarked in Abuja while 142 were flown to Murtala Muhammed Int’l Airport, Lagos. All Evacuees tested negative to #COVID19 and proceeded on 14 days self-isolation as mandated by @NCDCgov, @Fmohnigeria and PTF on #COVID-19.
