Nigeria records 553 new cases, 12 deaths from COVID-19

The Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) said Nigeria on Saturday recorded 553 new cases of COVID-19 and 12 deaths therefrom.

In an update released late Saturday night, the NCDC said no new state had reported a case “in the last 24 hours” as at the time the update was published on its COVID-19 Micro Website shortly before midnight.

With this development, Cross River State remains the last state standing, after Kogi State was credited with two index cases on Wednesday and became the 35th state to enlist on Nigeria’s COVID-19 index board.

“Till date, 9,855 cases have been confirmed, 2,856 cases have been discharged and 273 deaths have been recorded in 35 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja,” the NCDC declared.

The 553 new cases were reported as follows: Lagos (378), FCT (52), Delta (23), Edo (22), Rivers (14), Ogun (13), Kaduna (12), Kano (9), Borno (7), Katsina (6), Jigawa (5), Oyo (5), Yobe (3), Plateau (3) and Osun (1).
