Nigeria records 454 new cases of COVID-19 as Edo overtakes Kano

Edo State has overtaken Kano State on Nigeria’s COVID-19 index table on a day that the country added 454 new cases to its total confirmed cases.

Edo is currently fourth on the table with total confirmed cases of 1,266 while Kano, which had earlier been displaced by Oyo, is now fifth with 1,262 cases.

A cursory look at the table shows that southern states are dominating the top positions, with Lagos as the epicentre way ahead with 10,910 while the FCT comes a distant second with 2,080.

The 454 new cases recorded on Friday were reported as follows: Lagos (87), Edo (63), FCT (60), Ondo (41), Benue (32), Abia (31), Ogun (29), Oyo (19), Kaduna (17), Delta (16), Enugu (15), Borno (14), Plateau (9), Nasarawa (8), Kano (5), Bauchi (4), Gombe (2), Katsina (1) and Kogi (1).

Also, according to the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), twelve (12) COVID-19 related deaths were recorded across the federation on Friday.

“Till date, 27,564 cases have been confirmed, 11,069 cases have been discharged and 628 deaths have been recorded in 35 states and the Federal Capital Territory,” the NCDC announced.

Cross River State remains the only state in the country without any confirmed case.
