Nigeria enters new week with 170 fresh cases of COVID-19

The Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has announced 170 confirmed new cases of COVID-19 in Nigeria, as at Sunday, May 3 2020.

The agency also disclosed that two deaths were recorded same day.

Till date, 2,558 cases have been confirmed, 400 cases have been discharged and 87 deaths have been recorded in 34 states and the Federal Capital Territory of the country.

The 170 new cases are reported from 11 states and the FCT. Lagos recorded 39, Kano (29), Ogun (24), Bauchi (18), Kaduna (15), FCT (12), Sokoto (12), Katsina (8), Borno (7), Nasarawa (3), Adamawa (2) and Oyo (1).

Two states, Cross River and Kogi, are yet to report any case, according to the NCDC.

Meanwhile, a new laboratory has been opened in Kano State on Sunday. The Director-General of NCDC Dr Chikwe Ihekweazu @Chikwe_I said he joined the Kano State Government in commissioning the mobile molecular laboratory funded by @AlikoDangoteFdn Aliko Dangote Foundation.

“This lab set up with @weare54gene, is the 3rd #COVID19 testing lab in Kano as we expand diagnostic capacity in the state,” Ihekweazu announced on his Twitter handle.
