NCDC declares 8,344 cases of COVID-19 across Nigeria

The Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) says a total of 8,344 cases of coronavirus infection has been confirmed across the federation since the index case, nearly three months ago.
The agency also announced that 2,385 cases have been discharged while 249 deaths have been recorded in 34 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), within the same period.
The overall picture included 276 new cases and 16 deaths reported by the NCDC on Tuesday, May 26 2020.
Lagos State remains the epicentre of the battle against the coronavirus pandemic in Nigeria. Out of the 276 new cases, Lagos hauled in a total of 161. Rivers State returned 36, Edo (27), Kaduna (19), Nasarawa (10), Oyo (6), Kano (4), Delta (3), Ebonyi (3), Gombe (2), Ogun (1), Ondo (1), Borno (1), Abia (1) and Bauchi (1).
Meanwhile, the NCDC said it has activated two new labs for inclusion in the NCDC Molecular Laboratory Network. They are: Afriglobal Medicare Lab, Ogun State and Sahel Centre for Molecular Diagnostics & Research, Katsina State.
“This brings the total number of labs with #COVID19 testing capacity to 28,” the NCDC reported.
