Nigerian airline operators shut down operations from Monday

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has declared that it would no longer be possible for domestic flight operations to resume on June 21.

Airports across Nigeria had been closed to flights, except for essential services, since March 23, 2020, as part of measures to curb the spread of coronavirus in the country.

The Director General of NCAA, Captain Musa Nuhu, made the disclosure on Thursday at the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 press briefing in Abuja.

Musa, who stood in for the Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, at the briefing, said that it would be disastrous for the country and aviation industry to do otherwise.

He added that NCAA would announce a specific date for resumption of flights after proper appraisal of the situation and meeting with stakeholders.

He said a new date would be announced by the end of June.
