The death by electrocution of the Chief Security Officer (CSO) to the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has been described as a mystery.

An informed source who is close to the Minister told RELIABLESOURCENG.COM that there was no reasonable way to explain the electrocution of Mr Tony Iwelu in the bathroom of his hotel room, where the late CSO had lodged after attending an official assignment with his principal, in Kaduna.

“It’s a mystery how such a thing happened. Out of nowhere, electric current entered the shower and electrocuted the man. Autopsy conducted on his body showed that his entire internal organs were all burnt, leaving him no chance to live,” the source narrated painfully.

Iwelu, according to a statement by the Head, Press and Public Relations in the Ministry of Transporta, Mr Eric Ojiekwe, died on Monday in Kaduna when he was electrocuted by a shower rose at the Stone Edge Hotel, Kaduna, where they were lodged after an official assignment.

Until his death, Iwelu was in charge of all issues relating to the minister’s security; a job he did with utmost professionalism.

“There is no gainsaying that the professionalism he brought to bear in the discharge of his job, sustained him for over two decades in the service of the minister.”

“The late Iwelu who hailed from Delta State will be greatly missed, as friends and colleagues have been expressing shock and utter disbelief since the incident took place.

“They described him as a vibrant, honest, kind-hearted, loyal and an easy-going young man who was conscientious in the discharge of his duties.

“He left behind a young wife and three children; the eldest being 14 years.

“We painfully accept this divine reality and pray God to grant his gentle soul eternal rest,” Ojiekwe announced in the statement.
