Lateef Jakande, ex-governor of Lagos State, dead at 91

Former Governor of Lagos State, Alhaji Lateef Jakande, is dead. He died on Thursday morning in Lagos, aged 91, according to reports.
Jakande, aka Baba Kekere, was a former journalist who became governor of Lagos State under the Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN) from 1979 to 1983.
His administration brought a lot of development to Lagos, most popular being the Jakande Housing Scheme.
He was dubbed Baba Kekere (small father) after the late sage and former premier of the Western Region, Chief Obafemi Awolowo.
He later emerged Minister of Works under the Sani Abacha military regime (1993–98).
