Ogun State governorship candidate of the People’s Redemption Party (PRP), Professor David Bamgbose, is dead.

RELIABLESOURCENG.COM learnt that Bamgbose died on Friday morning at the Lantoro Hospital, Abeokuta, after a brief illness.

His death was confirmed by his personal assistant, an Assistant Senior Pastor of Peace and Love Church, Mr Oduntan Olayemi.

The late politician, a professor of Educational Management, died one week after he was unveiled by the Chairman of PRP, Samson Ogunsanya, after a meeting with leaders and stakeholders of the party in Abeokuta.

He was a governorship aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) before he stepped down for another aspirant, Ladi Adebutu, who later emerged the party’s candidate.

However, he said he left PDP for PRP because of “injustice” meted out to him.

According to Olayemi, Bamgbose, who was also a cleric, had complained of being tired the previous day, and was taken to hospital around Olomore, where he was referred to Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Abeokuta.

“He complained of tiredness yesterday (Thursday) and we decided to take him to an hospital around Olomore. We were referred to FMC for further checks.

“We opted for the state hospital, Lantoro, because of the urgency and he was admitted at the emergency ward where he was administered oxygen till today (Friday).

“I got back to the hospital this morning and I met him breathing too fast and heavy. I got a call from where I went to get him some prescribed medication that he had passed on,” Olayemi narrated.

Bamgbose is survived by his wife, Mary, and six children.
