The Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire, has announced that all contacts of the index case of the coronavirus #COVID19 in Nigeria have completed their follow up period and have been certified free to rejoin the society.

With this development, only the Italian index case remains in quarantine and the single coronavirus case in Nigeria.

The Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), communicated the minister’s announcement in an update on its twitter handle Friday afternoon.

The minister had earlier announced that the second confirmed coronavirus #COVID19Nigeria case who was a contact of the index case, had tested negative twice for the virus.

“He has cleared the virus and is allowed to go home,” the minister said.

The minister also informed the press that the index case’s health situation was improving, adding that the medical team attending to him had advised further tests early next week to guide the decision to discharge him.

“The World Health Organisation (WHO) has now declared #COVID19 as a pandemic. This is a call for action for increased resources to quickly detect and control this outbreak. It is not a time for fear and panic. We are investing resources to strengthen Nigeria’s response,” Ehanire announced to the press.
