Members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Edo State have elected Osagie Ize-Iyamu as the party’s gubernatorial candidate for the for the September 2020 governorship election in Edo state.

The chairman of the Edo primary election and governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodinma, declared Ize-Iyamu winner of the direct primary, defeating two other contestants, Pius Odubu and Osaro Obazee.

Iyamu, promoted by the suspended National Chairman of APC, Adams Oshiomhole, was the gubernatorial candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for the same election in 2016.

He was beaten by the incumbent governor, Godwin Obaseki, then candidate of the APC and godson of Oshiomhole, who was the outgoing governor.

Oshiomhole and Obaseki have recently parted ways after their relationship hit the rock.

The climax of the protracted bitter battle for supremacy for the soul of Edo State on the platform of APC was the disqualification of Obaseki by the APC Screening Committee for the September 2020 governorship election.

Obaseki, however, will have to go through the formality of primary election, according to PDP, in order to emerge the party’s candidate.

Iyamu, according to the result declared the chairman of the primary election, Uzodimma, won in all three senatorial districts of Edo to emerge the candidate.
