INSECURITY: Kaduna, like Katsina, bans transportation of animals in and out of state

The Kaduna State Government may have taken a cue from neighbouring Katsina by banning the transportation of livestock from the state to other parts of the country, and vice versa, as part of effort to address insecurity.
The Katsina State Government had on Tuesday announced it had banned the transportation of cattle from the state to any other state in Nigeria.
A statement signed by Katsina government spokesperson, Abdu Labaran, said the ban is backed by the Security Challenges (Containment) Order signed into law by Governor Aminu Bello Masari.
The order prohibited the sale of second-hand motorcycles at Charanchi market, carrying three persons on motorcycles and carrying more than three passengers on a tricycle.
“In addition, the Security Challenges (Containment) Order also imposed the (total) closure of Jibia-Gurbi Baure road to all motorists, with travellers playing the road to use the alternative Funtua road until further notice, and (the closure of) Kankara-Sheme road to all commercial vehicles, who are similarly advised to go through Funtua.

“Furthermore, the Order also limits the sale of fuel of NOT more than N5,000.00 to motorists to ONLY 2 designated filling stations in Jibia, Batsari, Safana, Danmusa, zaka kara, Faskari, Sabha, Dandume, Musawa, Matazu, Dutsinma, Kurfi, Danja and Kafur local government areas, even as it reinforces the prohibition of the sale of petrol in Jerrycans at filling stations,” the statement said.
The Kaduna State Government in a statement issued on Thursday by the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, said the decision was taken after a thorough review of the security situation in the state.
Aruwan also announced the immediate suspension of the Kawo weekly market in Kaduna North Local Government Area which holds every Tuesday.
The statement warned that transportation of donkeys into the state is a criminal offence, stressing that anyone found engaging in this will be prosecuted accordingly.
The commissioner said: “After wide consultations and thorough security reviews, the Kaduna State Government has banned the transportation of livestock from the state to other states in the country.
“This ban also prohibits the transportation of livestock into Kaduna State from other states. Both bans take effect immediately, from today, 2nd September 2021.

“The government also wishes to reiterate that the transportation of donkeys into the state is a criminal offence and anyone found engaging in this will be prosecuted accordingly.
“Furthermore, the Kawo weekly market, which usually holds every Tuesday in Kaduna North LGA, has been suspended with immediate effect.”
According to Aruwan, “The previous directives suspending weekly markets and selling of petrol in Jerry cans in Birnin Gwari, Giwa, Chikun, Igabi and Kajuru LGAs, as well as banning the felling of trees for timber, firewood and charcoal and other commercial purposes in Birnin Gwari, Kachia, Kajuru, Giwa, Chikun, Igabi and Kauru LGAs, are still in force.”
The statement added that the directives will be vigorously enforced by security agencies.
Kaduna is one of the seven Nigeria’s north western states – Zamfara, Sokoto, Kebbi, Katsina, Kano and Jigawa – held by the jugular by bandits who daily abduct, maim and kill citizens with little or no resistance by the security agencies.
