The wave of insecurity in Imo State blew across Owerri and Awo-Omanma at the weekend and left in its trail a litany of deaths and destruction.

Hours after the Umuguma Divisional Police Headquarters in Owerri West Local Government Area was set ablaze and two officers killed, the country home of the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Prof George Obiozor, at Awo-Omanma, Oru East Local Government Area, was burnt down.

RELIABLESOURCENG.COM learnt that the attackers went to the Igbo leader’s home in vehicles and threw improvised explosive devices (IEDs) into the compound.

Prof Obiozor was not at home when his house was attacked, but the incident was captured by closed circuit television mounted in the house.

He is also yet to react to the arson attack but one of his aides confirmed the incident to the media and called on the police to fish out those who carried out the arson. Police spokesperson in the state, CSP Mike Abattam, who later confirmed the attack, said that the police had begun investigation.
