Ganduje releases noose around Sanusi’s neck as Dangote intervenes again

The noose appears to have been released from the neck of embattled Emir of Kano, His Royal Highness Muhammadu Sanusi II, who has been embroiled in a crisis of confidence with Kano State governor, Abdullahi Ganduje.
Again, it was billionaire business mogul Aliko Dangote, who stepped up to intervene on behalf of the out-of-favour Emir.
Dangote and Ekiti State Governor and chairman of Nigeria’s Governors’ Forum, Dr Kayode Fayemi, according to a statement by Mr Abba Anwar, the Chief Press Secretary to Gov. Ganduje, had initiated a reconciliatory meeting between Emir Sanusi and Gov. Ganduje in Abuja, yesterday.
“As the two leaders met, they congratulated each other for the successful completion of the Ramadan Fast and the Eid-el-Fitr celebration.
“Both leaders spoke and urged all Muslims to continue with the good teachings and spirit of the Fasting period of the Month of Ramadan.
“Emir Sanusi seized the opportunity to congratulate Gov. Ganduje for the victory in his second term in office. He also wished the governor successful tenure in office,” the statement stated.
The statement further said: “For healthier relationship between the two institutions of government and Kano Emirate Council, the dialogues will continue.”
Kano State Government had Thursday queried Emir Sanusi over alleged misappropriation of N3.4bn by the Kano Emirate Council, following the report of a panel set up by the government to investigate the activities of the Kano Emirate Council, led by Sanusi.
The panel report had also recommended the suspension of the Emir who it had accused of interfering with its investigation, so that the panel could do its work unhindered.
It would be recalled that the state government had also created four new emirates out of Kano emirate, thereby whittling the power and influence of Emir Sanusi.
Meanwhile, news of the reconciliation of Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje with the Emir of Kano, Malam Muhammadu Sanusi has excited some Kano residents.
Those spoken to by a News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) correspondent expressed satisfaction and appreciation with the reconciliation. They said the reconciliation was in the best interest of peace in the state and the nation.
Malam Muhammad Ahmad, a businessman, said the reconciliation has saved Kano from shame because of so many uncertainties that could have arisen if the whole process had continued.
He urged residents to keep praying for more peace in the state and the country at large and avoid developing sentiments and enmities on political issues.
