Finally, ASUU suspends eight-month-old strike

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has suspended its eight-month-old industrial action.
A Twitter post Friday morning by the union reads: “Congratulations Nigerian Students.
“The 8-Months Strike has been suspended conditionally, Universities to reopen on Monday, the 17th October, 2022.
RELIABLESOURCENG.COM learnt that ASUU decided to suspend the strike during a meeting of its leadership that began Thursday night and lasted into the early hours of Friday.

The meeting was called by the union to determine its next line of action after its state branches met over the Court of Appeal order last week that the lecturers should call off the strike and return to the classrooms.
The court had told the union to suspend the strike before filing an appeal on the National Industrial Court judgment ordering the union to return to work.
The union’s National Executive Committee (NEC), which comprises the chairmen of the state chapters and members of the national executive, attended the meeting at the ASUU National Secretariat in Abuja.
ASUU has been on strike since February 14 this year.
