No fewer than 1,600 senior civil servants have been moved up to the next level of their career, according to a memo that emanated from the office of the chairman of the Federal Civil Service Commission (FCSC), Monday, in Abuja.

This is coming amid unresolved issues surrounding the implementation of the nation’s new minimum wage policy.

In a memo dated 5th August 2019, the chairman of the Commission, Dr. Tukur Bello Ingawa, announced the promotion of officers in the directorate cadre, from salary grade levels 14 to 15, 15 to 16 and 16 to 17, respectively, with effect from 1st January 2018.

“Sequel to the conduct of the 2018 Directorate Level Promotion/Evaluation Exercise, Federal Civil Service Commission (FCSC) has approved the promotion of the following officers in the Federal Civil Service from Salary Grade Levels 14 to 15, 15 to 16 and 16 to 17, respectively, with effect from 1st January, 2018,” Dr. Ingawa announced in the lone paragraph memo, accompanied with the list of promoted officers.

A cursory look at the list shows that names of those promoted reflect the federal character principle of the Federal Government, as the names cut across the geo-political zones of the country.
