The Inspector General of Police Mohammed Adamu, has redeployed the Abia State Commissioner of Police, Okon Ene, four days after the Ebem Ohafia community in Abia rose vigorously to protest police killing of a youth in the community.

CP Janet Agbede has been deployed as the new Commissioner of Police, Abia State, taking over from Ene who is now redeployed to the Force Headquarters, Abuja.

According to a statement issued Tuesday by the Force PRO, DCP Frank Mba, IGP Adamu condemned the “glaring unprofessional conduct and misuse of firearms by a policeman” at Ebem Ohafia on Friday, 17th April, 2020. The unnamed policeman shot and killed Mr. Ifeanyi Arunsi, at his shop, following an argument.

The IGP also condemned the resort to self-help by the community which resulted in the burning of some police operational vehicles, invasion of the police station and damage to government property.

Mba said the IGP had set-up a Special Investigation Panel headed by DIG Anthony Michael Ogbizi, in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department to carry out a comprehensive investigation into the unfortunate incident.

“The Panel will review police actions and inactions prior, during and after the death of Mr. Ifeanyi Arunsi and the circumstances surrounding the attack on the police station and damage to property,” Mba stated in the statement.

While condoling the family and friends of the Late Ifeanyi Arunsi, the IGP enjoined the people of Ebem Ohafia not to take the laws into their own hands but rather allow the course of justice to prevail at all times.

He assured that the investigation into the case will be swift and thorough noting that justice will surely be done to all parties.
